Fontano Foods in Chicago

Never disappoints. Ingredients are always fresh and delicious. My favorite sub place in the loop. Also, it has a great location next to the park.

A historic restaurant once named "Best sandwich shop in America" requires a visit even if the title was from Zagat in 2012. Fontano is quite the experience and the constant flow of locals ordering subs proves Fontano still has it. Fontano Subs is a deli in Little Italy and dates back to the 1960s. The deli is in the way way back with drinks, dessert, and munchies in the front of the store. They keep it simple and the handful of staff behind the deli counter keep the flow going. Know your order before walking up. I recommend their Blockbuster full of different deli meat. The deli person will walk you through the rest. They start at 6 inches and go up to 3 feet. 12 inches was perfect for me. The cashier takes credit and there is plenty of tables to enjoy your sandwich. The food itself is good. Best in the USA? I've had better, but it's still good!

In the heart of little Italy, this family owned shop is what makes Chicago. Quality in their food, friendly and inviting staff. Stop in and try everything!

I don't say this lightly... if I were on death row, a 10" Caputo from here would be my final meal. Forget deep dish - this is what Chicago should be known for. I've been a happy customer of this sandwich joint for over 10 years and I'm yet to have another sub that even comes close. I would honestly consider donating $500 if I heard they were struggling due to COVID. I'm so hungry. I'm literally begging my wife to bring me some since she works nearby. It's so good.

Best place to get a sub in the area. Cold deli or warm meatball, whatever your preference they'll have you covered. Great range of meats and addons. Their oil and peppers are always perfect. Personally I dont leave that UIC area without a blockbuster sandwich

I go there at least every other week They have the BEST sandwiches in CHICAGO and the store is awesome The people that work there are friendly and helpful. I LOVE FONTANOS

Great Mom and Pop type place. Old fashioned Italian Sub. By old fashioned I mean real meat i.e. Italian hams. You won't be disappointed.

Great sub at a reasonable price. Make sure you bring a couple thousand napkins because the amount of oil on here will make a mess anywhere.

Our Italian Beef sub DID NOT disappoint. So glad we went a little further out of the way to go to the original location, it was well worth it.

Fantastic sandwiches! Super nice people that work there. And the peanut butter cookies, da bomb! Walked to this place on a whim while in the city and it did NOT disappoint. Nothing bad to say here. Glad we experienced it. If youre in the mood for a tasty samich seek this place out and enjoy yourself.

Probably the best sub sandwich I've ever had. Great meats and cheeses, fresh lettuce and tomato, and bread that really brings the whole sub together. I feel compelled to try every sandwich on the menu.The service is fast and the staff are friendly. There are tables if you want to eat there or you could take your order to go. The subs will hold up if you can't eat them for a little while. All the parking in the immediate vicinity is permit parking, so you'll probably have to walk. There's some metered parking near one of the UIC lots (18a?) and the walk each way was 9 minutes or so maybe.The only regret I have is that I didn't get a sandwich here sooner.

These subs are OUT OF THE WORLD. They are located in Little Italy and they are an absolute must have for either lunch or dinner. I leave satisfied every single time- staff is super friendly, and their grocery store is the icing to the full Italian experience.

Excellent fast service well masked for covid-19

I'm relatively new to town, but it's easy to see why Fontano's consistently ranks among the best subs in Chicago. So deliciously satisfying, good service, and prices that won't sour your tastebuds. I admit I wasn't able to really tell the difference between the Blockbuster and the Wise Guy (their two most popular) outside of the cheese, but both were great - I liked them with everything plus oil and mild peppers. Next up: the meatball.

I grew up on these sandwiches and could never say a bad thing about them. They are THE ABSOLUTE BEST! And they have some of the best peanut butter cookies. Great customer service beautiful personalities just everything.

An institution in Little Italy with a well deserved reputation. The quality and the freshness of their food is AMAZING. Love the subs but the meatball sandwiches are Phenomenal as well.

Recommendations: Marinated Chicken Breast Sandwich, Blockbuster Sandwich and the Tuna Sandwich.

Fontano’s, Fontina’s whichever it is right now is the best. Blockbuster for me every time. Love this place!!
